The Town of Southern Shores, NC was incorporated in 1979. The area encompassed by the town was once merely a real estate development of the Kitty Hawk Land Company. A Southern Shores Civic Association, initially established by the developer, was instrumental in obtaining the Town’s municipal incorporation. The first Town Council, appointed after its incorporation by the legislature, drew its membership from the Civic Association. Southern Shores is approximately one mile wide, and four miles long running north to south.

It is nestled between the towns of Kitty Hawk and Duck. The Martin’s Point community on the Currituck Sound is one of the most luxurious residential areas on the Outer Banks. A paved multi-use path for walking and cycling runs parallel to Highway 12, and is a popular attraction for those visiting and living in Southern Shores.

With easy access to two major shopping centers and several smaller marketplaces, both north and south of town limits, Southern Shores is a great place to call home for a week, or a lifetime. Dining opportunities from Fine to Fun are readily available, with nearby hotels and plenty of nice, spacious oceanfront cottages.
